You download the installation iso for your processor architecture(likely x86, and ppc if you've got an old mac). You burn the iso onto a disc. You then boot form the disc and use the partition utility included to format your hard drive to something logical, like ext4. You then install Gentoo to your newly formatted drive and bask in the glory of GNU/Linux.

But the real Stallman would suggest using a self-built PC with coreboot as its BIOS! EFI is an attack on your freedom!

Why would you want to install Gentoo on the Macintosh when OS X is already based on a BSD Unix foundatin?

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-28 15:51

Gentoo is for little girls. Use LFS if you're a grown-up.

LFS is for little girls. Use Vista if you're a grown-up.

Why would you want to install Gentoo on the Macintosh when OS X is just FreeBSD with a shiny window manager?
I made a minor correction, sir, to your statement, as I am certain this was its actual meaning.

Because Mac OS X is very slow in comparison to Gentoo's performance. You can't use a lot of CFLAGS when you target a G3

Shiny window manager?
Mac OS X doesn't rely on the ancient X11 system and the popular X.org implementation.
And FreeBSD?  The kernel itself is only part BSD, with significant code from Mach.  The IOKit driver system is completely unlike the traditional Unix/Linux model.  The GUI stuff is all in Objective-C, which is used almost exclusively by Mac OS X.

Mac OS X's compiler has more optimizations enabled by default than standard gcc.

There is nothing BSD about the kernel. Your attempt at arguing with a troll has gone awry.

fail.  GTFO.

Two spaces after a period? What the fuck is wrong with you? Any justification for that practice died with the invention of proportional fonts and automatic kerning.
I hope you catch on fire.
