First Time I Saw a Mac

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-15 21:12

Guys, today I saw the first mac I've ever actually seen in person.

Thing is, I live in a small country town in the middle of nowhere, I'm probably the only one for miles who knows what the internet is (well..). I've been doing some voluntary work lately, and today I had to go to a book store to have some old books valued in case they were worth anything (manager of the charity shop I'm working at asked me to)

I walk in, guy is sat at his desk, and i give him 4 bags of books to look through.

He then consults ebay and what not.

On his mac.

it didn't look like anything special. I think it was one of the older models, it was black with a shiny white apple logo.

Anyway, the entire time, there's a small black child standing next to him, just a toddler, giving me the eye.

The man is white but the shop is empty, so I'm wondering what this kid is doing there.

About 20 minutes later, a woman walks in, also white, she walks over and kisses the guy with the mac and the little black kid shouts "mummy!"

the worst part of it is, as the woman goes to leave with the black child, he says "are we taking honey". the guy looks down near his feet behind his desk and I assume honey is a sleeping dog or someshit that I didn't notice, so she says "Honey is staying here". at which point she reaches behind the desk, and pulls out a basket/cot thing, with a baby in it.

but the baby is fucking white as well.

I wasn't sure what to think, but I'll never forget the first time I saw a mac.

Not the first Macintosh I ever saw, but the first Apple computer I ever seen and used was a 1986 Apple IIGS. It used one of those big 5.25" floppy drives. I assume it ran Apple DOS 3.3 or something similar. I made my first ever printout with it as well, a crude picture of a dinosaur, printed out with one of those dot matrix printers that took ten minutes to print out the damn thing. Ahh, childhood memories.

Correction: It probably ran Apple ProDOS, not Apple DOS. Yes they're two different disk operating systems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_ProDOS
