Algorithms, data structures and maths

Hey /prog/ very inexperienced java programmer here (self taught using BlueJ, obviously using a better IDE now). Anyways now that I can essentially program with Java, I want to learn how to program well with Java, and well every other language.

So /prog/ I ask you, have you any books, web resources etc that you found particularly useful for algorithms, maths and the like?

Let me be the first to tell you to READ SICP. No seriously, read it.

You ruined my fun. I was going to ">>3 YOU MENA SICP" but it's too late now.

Good. I hate to see a programmer not using emacs.

Would SICP be the only book I need to read to get a good wide knowledge, the equilivant of a programmer bible? (going to regre saying that, but I can't think of a better analogy). Or is it more of very good introduction into things?

I'll read it either way but I'd rather not read it, then come back and pester everyone again if it's the latter.

I'm using eclipse right now, would you recommend against it? Or is it more of a what ever suits your tastes sort of thing? Does emacs have any specifically great qualities?

Also thanks for the help guys.

SICP is the only book humans need to read in their life.

I think that "The art of computer programming" by Donald E. Knuth is a pretty nice and and light set of introductory books.

But seriously, this should help you: http://www.reddit.com/help/faqs/programming

But don't take it all too seriously.

Also, start programming in a real language

And read your SICP.
