Puzzle Generation

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-20 19:50

Do any of you have some links for algorithms on generating random puzzles?  Not sudoku or crosswords, but like stuff you would find in Chip's Challenge.

On-topic: What is the next number in this sequence?

27.2, 20.0, 62.0, 88.3, 60.8, 44.7

From the title, I thought this thread was the name of a generation of people. You know, like generation x or whatever. I was intrigued as to why a generation would be named that. Had some secret Russian education program been raising children to see everything in life as a game, an objective to be conquered?

Then I clicked and was disappointed.

I know, >>9.  We all were disappointed.

You're in /prog/.  You should expect words like generation to be programming related, not family related.

I have one called "What Wiki Page?"  It goes to the Wikipedia homesite, puts every link in an array, picks a random on, goes there, and repeats this process hundreds of times.  It then picks out a paragraph, and you have to guess what page it is on.  You also learn by doing it, so I like it.

You mean like in shit games such as Diablo and Nethack?

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-23 13:26

shit games
Nethack

Surely you jest!

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-23 15:06

These 2 games practically reinvented their own genres.

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-23 15:17

>>18

Nethack reinvented the roguelike genre, and Diablo reinvented the realtime ripoff of Nethack genre.

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-23 15:21

>>19
You say it like Starcraft is realtime ripoff of a boardgame genre.

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-23 15:23

>>19
I have to say >>20 has a point, calling Diablo a Nethack ripoff is being far too kind.

>>17,18
To call Diablo a shitty game is an insult to shitty games. To call it a game at all is a crime against humanity.

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-23 15:32

Nethack pretty much reinvented gaming. You're not giving it the respect it deserves.

Name: Anonymous 2010-02-23 15:33

Diablo is conspiracy by mouse manufacturers to increases sales.
