Sepples Makefiles

Hello, /prog/. I'm a Sepples programmer who is starting to make transitions in a number of ways. I plan to switch to C, and I'm planning to switch to Linux, as well. Before I do either of those, I'd like figure out how to make my own C++ makefiles. I've always used Dev C++ (lol, outdated/shit/ide), which did it for me, but now I want to be able to write programs with a text editor and a compiler. Can /prog/ give me any reading materials on this subject?

Did you read your Structure and Interpretation of C Makefiles?

Just learn Cmake. There's no good reason to start new projects with Autotools. The only reason to learn Autotools these days are for legacy software.
