Text Editors for Programming

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-13 22:41

Hi /prog/
I'm a CS student and I'm growing a little tired of IDEs. They're convenient but I don't like the fact I don't learn some stuff since they fix so much stuff for you.

Does anyone have suggestions for text editors (not IDEs) for programming? I'm trying emacs right now. Any other?

Thanks!

No, IDEs BREAK stuff for you. You're trying emacs - great. Read the tutorial, use C-h a lot, and you're set. The next step is to have all your workflow done inside emacs, browsing news, the web, managing files, writing tex, lisp, programming, everything. Then, learn elisp and move to lisp in general, and enlightment will come.
