Text Editors for Programming

Hi /prog/
I'm a CS student and I'm growing a little tired of IDEs. They're convenient but I don't like the fact I don't learn some stuff since they fix so much stuff for you.

Does anyone have suggestions for text editors (not IDEs) for programming? I'm trying emacs right now. Any other?

WHAT, YOU MEAN THAT EDITOR THAT ISN'T A SLOPPY “UPGRADE” OF A DESIGN THAT WAS BAD IN THE FIRST PLACE? I REMEMBER IT QUITE WELL, ACTUALLY.
