The Classical Latin I learned in school says it's a valid construction, but the Wikipedia article makes valid points for both forms.
The English language is ultimately about furthering communication; if you understand my intent, it is of no matter whether I say viruii/viruses or boxes/boxen. This ain't French, son, this is a living growing language.
