So /prog/, I was thinking about all the mess of writing good software, with good programming environments and reducing portability effort.
Imagine you could just keep ONE language to rule them all, or ONE IDE, or ONE operating system. Everything may solve well... nevertheless it would be limitative for our awesome programmer minds... However ITT put your preferences about:
- language
- ide
- os
Language: CL
IDE: Emacs
OS: I prefer using WINNT with ports of *nix tools, it's merely a personal preference as my work involves lots of Win32 low-level tinkering, but if none of that were required, a *nix would be fine too.

Some months ago, when Fedora 11 came out, I've tried the live Gnome CD on my laptop, that is a centrino 1.60GHz, and it was slow as thefuck!.

Don't be surprised that LiveCD versions are slow. If you have enough RAM, you could boot the CD to RAM and have a blazing experience. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BootToRAM
