Need a direction

Hey, I would first like to say I am a noob to basically all programming, but I am pretty good with computers, and I am completely willing to learn everything I need.  So, I want to set up a rather simply designed website but.  I want to receive data from a rss feed, run it through some formulas with inputs from a user on my site and then post the result on the page.  My question, what languages should I start to read up on?  Is this possible for a noob with a lot of dedication and free time?  Thanks for any advice to start me off with.

PHP, Perl, Ruby, Python are all good server side languages
and Javascript for client side scripting.
My own preference is Python.
