stderr bullshit

I just moved from windows to linux and there's one thing that's annoying me; why is wget passing its output to stderr? What the fuck is wrong with you people, what's wrong with stdout? I can't grep that shit.
I heard about some redirection techniques, but, as far as I remember, the commands consist of single digits and >s, so its ungoogleable, how do I do it?
