Make your website secure

The outcome of the 2009 Time 100 World's Most Influential People poll isn't that important in the big scheme of things, but it's difficult to understand why a high profile website would conduct an anonymous worldwide poll without even the most basic of safeguards in place. This isn't high security; this is web 101. Any programmer with even a rudimentary understanding of how the web works would have thought of these exploits immediately.

Without any safeguards, wannabe "hackers" set out to game the poll in every obvious way you can think of.

We weren't the first, you know. The Japs over at 2chan did this a few years ago.

Boring thread.

If you tried to write something truly insightful and useful almost every day, you would eventually just start shitting on the page like anyone would.

The lesson to learn there is, "Don't write every day, Wait until you have something truly insightful and useful". The people that feel they have to blog about everything should have their internet license revoked.

Just from reading Xarn's blog, I get the feeling that he's a surface learner; he treats the learning process as merely "trying to know lots of things," and then writes about it on his blog in a vain attempt to boost his ego. Anyone can write a summary of an article on Wikipedia and pass it off as knowledge. He's a fraud, if anything, and he's only deluding himself.

He looks so cute!

but... that's me. (´;ω;`)

Anyway, it is good to know a little bit about everything in computer science, so long as you have a few main concentrations. This way you can more easily jump into new projects.

If you're the true Xarn, you'll have to prove it with a timestamped photo of you and your dog in bed with the Culver.

Dearest Xarn,
I have heard that you are bisexual, and a conjurer of the spirits of the computer; therefore I would be greatly obliged if you would be so kind as to take me on an anal tour of your anus.

o nos. Actually my comment was in defense of the character traits attributed to Xarn in >>20's IHBT. I do not claim to be Xarn.

Only the true Xarn would claim to not be Xarn.

Congratulations, Xarn.

That's just because Xarn has the mental prowess not matched since the likes of Anal Touring.  Now go back to churning out kernel modules, treacherous philistine!

On another note, I like leafing through Xarn's older posts.  Most of them are just internet surveys, charts about his server stats, and various emo whinnings. Apparently he wanted to commit suicide. Twice.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
Jeff has posted an update. How did he get hacked? That's easy: it's all the fault of someone else, who didn't follow Jeff's advice!
