Installation of Software is Too Easy
Isn't that a good thing?

I agree, installing is too easy in ubanto.

Source or bust.

yeah, portinstall <pkgname> is so much harder...

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-16 23:15

Not sure if this is a level or not, but it is. Why use portinstall when you can just download the source and make clean install?

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-16 23:20

>>8
Why download the source when the Makefile does it for you? Just cd /usr/ports/category/port && make install clean.

As a Windows PowerUser, this thread amuses me greatly. All I have to do is go to the website, download the .exe installer, and away I go. No need to mess around with makefiles like it's the 1970's

s/away I go/I still haven't begun the installation procedure/

And that's after you had to find its stupid wobsite.  My package manager will have the program installed before you even hear of it.

Seriously, how hard is it to use google? What are you, some sort of turbo-terminal weenie? Ooh look at me guys, I have to type text into a window to do things. High five!

Name: Anonymous 2009-04-17 3:24

typing text into terminal/window is non-deterministic affair bound to attract errors and typos.
Click and run is deterministic and intuitive.

In recent years Linux has suffered a major set-back following the shock revelations form SCO Group, whose software had been stolen wholesale and incorporated into illegal distributions of Linux. For the past five years, the overwhelming effort of Linux developers has gone into removing SCO’s intellectual property from the Linux operating system ? but as the threat of litigation has subsided many users are asking once-again if Linux is a serious contender?

I knew it. The deceptively cute penguin mascot was enough.
Its smirking glare is hinting about nefarious things people writing this app are doing.

your not the only one

looks almost exactly the same as the previous version lacking any of the visual style, reliability and advanced features of the industry standard Windows Vista.
reliability
advanced features
Windows Vista

If they weren't so obviously serious, I would award them the full 10/10

also
?kernel? ( which is the Linux equivalent of the MS Dos layer in older versions of windows). : )
