I wonder if I can't make my system Perl-free, just uninstalled vim (kept vi, which is just compiled with normal intead of big) which let me remove Ruby and dropped one program depending on Perl.

Hooray for FreeBSD -- Perl was removed from the base distribution a long time ago (though a fuckton of external software packages, like vim, depend on the shit which means you end up installing it eventually).

I don't follow. You're not suggesting I'd install vim, are you?

Even if you prefer emacs, the truth is that emacs is being rewritten in PERL [1], so you'll need PERL one way or another.

Perl is dying
Does Netcraft confirm this?

Yes, if we take a look at the November 2008 Web Server Survey[1] we can see that Apache-based web servers have been on the decline for a while.

That's it, thread over. I would advise everybody visiting this thread to immediately pack up their belongings and go home.

You're reading the wrong graph. The total number of active Apache servers are on the rise. IIS, for example is losing servers right now.

>>7 was reading the graph about market share, which is perfectly reasonable, because an unmarketable website is completely worthless.

no web site is unmarketable.

if http://www.gaiaonline.com/ is marketable, anything is.
