linux ventrilo

first time poster here, hope you have fun with me as i hope to have with you all :)

ok so i play wow and i currently run linux b/c m$ is evil.  vent isn't made for linux because the writer of vent is EVIL too.  he fers his stuff will be stolen if he makes it for linux, which COULD happen i supose, but when it comes down to it. who cares. (my answer to everything)

anyone know of a program that will work with vent servers kinda like i.e. pidgeon works with AIM, but ISN'T AIM.

does anyone know how to fix my damnproblem?
my mic works in sound recorder, and when i have vent set to voice recognition it turns itself on when i talk.... but nothing comes out the damn speakers.  i can listen to people. i hear them perect.

i'm running ubuntu 8.10 and i have crossover games, and wine installed cuz sometimes one doesn't like wow and ihave to use the other.... and then they switch.
