Jobs

So, I am going to be graduating from school in a year or so. I took a look at Craiglist to see what kind of job opportunities there are. It seems its 90% Java/.NET Enterprise jobs, and like 5% Sepples. There seems to be no jobs for the type of work that I would like, something that includes free software such as GNU/Linux, and programming languages that are not ENTERPRISE. Is there a wider variety of jobs in other places, or will I have to start becoming an ENTERPRISE programmer, and learn to program Java/.NET (I'd rather not if I don't have to, and I will move across the world if that's what it takes, I don't really want to stay here anyway).

Any help, opinions appreciated!

Sorry to break it to you, but the enterprise is ENTERPRISE.

I typed a paragraph for you but I lost it.

tl;dr
95% of all programming jobs use enterprise shit
If you want to use free software do something with servers.  If the company isn't pants on head retarded they use Linux on their servers.
Be something like a systems admin if you want to write code, use linux, etc.

GNAA/Loonix is not free software. OpenBSD is free software.

Current web monkey jobs include PHP/ASP/AJAX/Dreamweaver. Current code monkey jobs include .Net/Java/C/++/VB6. You won't find many advertised positions for "Linux positions or related technologies". You won't find many advertised positions for non enterprise technologies. These positions do get advertised, but you won't find many of them around.

I'd have never heard of any positions for free software development outside of companies that already have a reputation for sponsoring FOSS development. If you really want to code free software, here are the options I think that you could pursue:
* join a company that has a reputation for funding FOSS  development
* start your own company that sells free software related services

Of course, you can do what I did and suspend your indignant righteousness towards proprietary software for just a few years in order to establish some critical business programming experience.

Of course. The GNAA don't develop a lot of free software.

You could also join the Anonix team and sell a distribution of the OS with a year of free support.

How were you able to do that? Even thinking about using Java makes my penis get Leah Culver all over it (my penis now has acne scarring).

But seriously, if I had to choose, I guess I could use that Mono Project shit and learn about .NET?

I'd like to lick the Leah Culver off of Leah Culver's Leah Culvers, if you know what I mean.

Surprisingly, both universities I work at use Red Hat.

FreeBSD is great, but I suppose it just doesn't have the support.
