Are all the jobs in Java these days? I started off with Java in high school, but mostly have moved on to other languages like C. Im still in college and looking for work atm, and was wondering what the best way might be to get back into Java so as to find some gainful employment for a limited amount of time.
Should I just pick up a book and start reading, and if so, which? Also, what do you think is important to know for a job with the language/what kind of problem should i be able to program to prove I know enough?

Sad but true: if you want jobs with Java, you will probably have to drink the ENTERPRISE kool aid and learn J2EE. It is the largest pile of faggotdick bullshit frameworks you will ever see, but you need to be brave. JAVA is worth it.
