Throwing in the towel

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-03 6:41

Today is the last line of code I write, the last day I will ever program.
I'm throwing in the towel, and I'll explain why, but first a bit of background.
I wrote an ANSI C compiler when I was 12 years old, from then I've always been learning new programming languages, new ways to solving problems so I got new ways of thinking. Now we (software) are in a big fucking mess the entire shits going to crash down and kill us all soon, so I'm escaping before it does.
Everything is substandard hacks, bug saturated throway rubbish which hasn't been fixed because what seems like good enough today is good enough for tommorow in this industry.
Well now I take my leave, since I know we're not going to see anyone making hackable lisp kernel or fucking stop complaining about the compiler "whining" when you fail to use a language with static type checking.
I'm sick all these idiots who act like they know shit, Almost everyone thinks they know more than everyone else. here's a hint: You don't. You might think you're in the top 1% of EXPERT PROGRAMMERS since you know what lambda calculus is but the truth is you ain't.
Another problem is the coperations have no fucking clue and will continue to screw everything up even worse than us incompetent programmers could do ourselves, we are totally and utterly fucked.
Furthermore I don't enjoy it anymore, I can't enjoy coding when I know I'm just adding to heap of shit programs around, Sure the stuff I write is really useful, there's people across the world using my software but everyone knows every piece of software has some bugs in it somewhere. So if you ever release programs you are damaging the world with half arsed crap.
So I guess I'll just end this with fuck you reading, yea you will continue to code and continue to fuck everything  up just like everyone else. Enjoy writing some funky little web program or a computer game or whatever you've been told to do. Don't even think about the harm you're causing to progress by not trying to find a way out of this quagmire.
Anyway, I'll check back on this thread incase anyone has questions.

- peace.

Would you mind elaborating with specific examples of supposed bug filled programs? It can't possibly be that bad that you're going to throw away a life-time of expert programmerness.

I would like to know too...
Any buggy app with a network interface or plays a part in the functionality of any major OS is relevant to my interests.

When you use programs everyday whether or not you hack on them too, You begin to see through them. The functionality become transparent, tools are like an extention of your fingers, or your brain. Having bugs in them produces the most awful abhorrent feeling, quite like having pins and needles while you try to walk around, it gets worse though. I'm looking forward a few years imagining what lives going to be like for the poor people we're punshing with our mistakes today, it's going to be utterly painful or impossible to use our tools effectivley, I've strived for years to tackle these issues but now I've come to the conclusions that we're already so screwed recovery is simply impossible, what more can one do than save their own self by not adding to the misery. When the whole shit comes down, at least I'll have minimized the number deaths my softwares caused. I'd urge others to do the same but like I said, it's too late and I doubt anyone would really follow my advice either.
