Not OP, but I was interested in it because it's kind of the canonical functional language these days. It seems to be the biggest one that really strives to be purely functional (lol monads). But fuck syntax.

I started with that (after just reading the Gentle Introduction), and found it to be very badly organized. Some of the earlier excercises required knowledge of syntactic constructs that weren't even introduced beforehand.
I eventually got over the horrible syntactic asshattery. I still hate the syntax, but the language features more than make up for it. Then there's Liskell, but I haven't tried it.
