SICP Question

Guys, I have a question. Maybe a little background first.

I have a degree from a Java-only university, so I never really even thought about functional programming. In fact, after seeing all the weenies on this board, I thought, "Surely functional programming is dead and gone. Besides, what can FP do that my OMG SCALABLE ENTERPRISE JAVA SOLUTION can't? Enterprise all the way, baby.".

But I've been reading Joel on Software (book and website), and I stumbled on the article called, "Can Your Programming Language Do This?" and I realized, no. None of the languages I know can do anything like that.

/prog/, I come to you a humble and contrite programmer. I'm willing to give Mr. Sussman and his book another shot. Will this teach me good solid functional programming, or will I be wasting my time? Will I learn all these wonderful, magical concepts such as first-class functions by reading this? IS THIS THE SATORI YOU SPEAK OF?
