By the time a C fag finishes his homebrew, slow, buggy implementation of a hash table, I'll be done with the whole module that required it.

Also, Greenspun's Tenth Rule:

Any sufficiently complicated C or Fortran program contains an ad hoc, informally-specified, bug-ridden, slow implementation of half of Common Lisp.
