Learning how to program

Hey, I'm sure you get plenty of these threads and hate them to bits, but, here goes anyway.

I want to learn how to program, and end up in something like videogame development eventually, so, how do I get there?

There are so many different languages, and so many tutorials around I don't really know where to start.

Learning to program to make games is silly.  Very few people who can speak fluent english even make games.  Regardless of how 'motivated' or 'determined' you are you will fail at academic and professional development if that's your driving force.
