Returning to Coding

Name: Anonymous 2007-08-11 14:32 ID:miI9tMU5

Hey /prog/,
I've quit programming about 3 years ago. I was an high skilled programmer, and I used to code in C, C++, Python, Java, C#, Lua, Ruby and a bit of ASM, with a very good knowledge of OOP. I left programming because I started working as a web developer, so I keep coding a bit ( in JS and PHP ), but I want as well to return to "true" coding. What you suggest me, /b/? I remember syntaxes of the most of the languages, most of the theory on programming ( pointers, OOP ) but I need to be able to code the projects I left ( an OpenGL engine for example ), and right now I can't restart them by myself...are there articles, books or more for returning to programming? I have only to refresh some concepts.

TL;DR:Help me returning a good programmer.

Shit's the same as it was in 2004. Hell, fundamentally it's the same as 1994. Nothing new under the sun.

It's troublesome reading entire books for getting only certain informations...in facts, scan for an information in a book bothers me too.

Do the SICP course; read and watch.

Touch SICP tenderly while reciting scheme keywords.

I LISTEN TO INFECTED MUSHROOM WHILE I WRITE JAVA BECAUSE I AM 1337

Coding is coding. Since when is writing a webapp not "true coding"? It's one of the few commercially-viable areas that won't make you suicide over Java or C++.

Also, >>2 is correct. Not much has changed since 2004, except an increased interest in functional languages and concerns of concurrency by the programming hoi polloi.

What the fuck. This isn't /b/.

Wow it's really true, direct contact with PHP rots the brain.
