Touring-completeness considered harmful

Name: Anonymous 2007-07-13 4:49 ID:TsTk7vXG

Expert programmers all over the world tout their Touring-complete languages and brag about how they can do anything.  Perhaps they can.  More likely is that they write Enterprise-grade code.

Us that have read SICP and achieved Satori through Haskell studies have seen the light -- Touring-completeness is just a silver bullet, there are no silver bullets!  Touring-completeness is just a distraction from writing enlightened code;  do you really need a built-in XML DOM when you could just use algorithmic datatypes instead?  Of course not!

There's no reason to put all your data in an XML file when you can change the code just as easily.

PS

If you don't understand this you haven't achieved Satori yet, sorry.
