Using various methods, I have a version of Vista working on this machine. I did this to test it out and learn about it. I will revisit this thread occasionally with new reports about what sucks about it.
Things that I have just discovered that suck about it:
- The Sidebar. It's fucking GAY. Who needs 2 clocks on their desktop? What the fuck is the point of the little tiny slideshow? Oh wow, the current DATE in a big font behind a cutesy little piece of paper. Fucking femfags. Gb2/active desktop. I'm glad my version of Windows didn't have the sidebar.
- The fact that you have to have the untrustworthy Windows Update service running to run any .msu update files from Microsoft.
- The whole "digital locker" concept. Thanks for being other comapnies' DRM bitch.
- Why can't I disable my network adapter from the taskbar icon. I have to fucking click through 10 menus to find that option.
- Event viewer SUCKS ASS. It won't show me the text of the event when I have it selected. I have to click and go to another window.
- Too many goddam services running when my machine isn't doing anything.
- The font used on the Vista visual style on menu titles, it looks too faggy.
- Beta drivers only for my graphics card? WTF?
- No drivers for my onboard motherboard sound? WTF?
- It renames the drive you install it on as the C:\ drive. Micrsoft, this may be news to you but CPM died like 30 years ago.
- If you don't install it on the first partition, you still can't remove the drive letter from the first partition.
- Windows Defender. Is this some kind of joke?
- Windows Firewall. Still sucks.
- Disk Defragmenter. Sucked since you got rid of the Win9x interface. Sucks that I need it at all
Things I like about Vista so far though:
- Wow, a Downloads folder. OMG, only took Microsoft about 10 years to figure out people download stuff!
- Even with the visual styles activated I haven't noticed any slowdown. And my computer isn't that fast (1.3Ghz)
- Don't see any performance issues with programs I'm running yet.
More as I use it more...
