Web Site Payment

Hi all, I recently agreed to do some web site work with a local business, and I had some questions regarding payment etiquette, if you will. I've probably worked 5 hours on it so far, with minimal PHP for templates and the rest done with standard HTML. I did graphic work as well, some logos and background gradients - nothing fancy or flashy. My question is - what kind of rate should I charge? I'm fairly new to doing this for actual clients (I've done contract work before, but never any freelance work)

well, I've just finished the first milestone in the project (the index page, lulz) and I'm not intending on doing any more work until we establish the payment plan, which is why I'm in a bit of a pickle. Some research revealed that the general rates around here (greensboro, NC) are $30-$50/hour, does this sound reasonable?

Always make them sign a contract before you do any work or you'll get screwed.

Companies suck. They are like niggers. They'll steal from you if they can. Arrange everything upfront, then work when you know they're legally bound to pay. Otherwise you won't get paid. Don't think their word has any value or they have any honour.

I stole a mouse and a flatscreen from work. And also a hard disk and about 200 blank CDs. Ha ha!
