Programming language fanboyism

Name: Anonymous 2007-02-27 0:33 ID:d3NDcVEQ

I hate the fact that most programming discussion forums and this whole "blogosphere" thing are clogged with programming language fanboys who:

- Have chosen some pet language (typically something functional and relatively uncommon like Haskell, Erlang, ML or Clean)
- Have never really bothered to really learn the said language (or any other language for that matter) to a level where they could make reasonable statements about its merits
- Have never written any actual useful code in it
- Demonstrate the greatness of their language by writing yet another fucking factorial function or a Fibonacci sequence generator and pointing out how it is clearer or more elegant than its Lisp/Python/C/whatever equivalent
- Make vague claims about how some feature x (which they don't understand and have never used but have read about in Wikipedia) makes their language hugely more productive (yes, the actual word they use) than any other language on the planet
