That's fine but that still doesn't make the economic recession his fault.  The cost of the war did add to the national debt, but so did everything else before and after him.  The recession wasn't even related to "a war economy," something the US can't even hope to achieve at this stage in the game.

Like I said, two words: Herbert Hoover.  The President of the time gets blamed for the crises of his time, even if they aren't his fault directly.
