Christian hate of Islam

With the little stir created with that US Muslim woman, a thought popped into my head...
Yes, like most religions, Christianity is fundamentally peaceful.  I know that much.

What is it about the Jewish nations and peoples hating Muslims in general so much?
Christians accept Muhammad as a prophet, but Muhammad was the LAST prophet, so he deserves more attention and stuff, so it can't just be the Muslim-following aspect.
Is it just that they associate Muslims with the Middle Eastern world?  Or maybe still just something passed down ever since the Crusades?

And there is a huge difference between criticizing something and insulting and discrediting the prophet Muhammad as "child rapist", though I agree that death penalty and Sharia as main source of legislation are definitely unfitting. There should be mutual respect between all religions and the extremists on every side should be punished; just look at the terrorists in Syria and Libya.
