What does it mean to be a good person?

Should one be ethical and logical? Logic is pretty obvious but what about ethics?

Is it ok to sacrifice million to save billions like Adrian Veidt in the Watchmen?

What if you deduce that everyone including yourself must sacrifice their lives for the advancement of technology so that new life forms can be created that are far superior to humanity because this is the ultimate greater good?

Or should you just be a goody 2 shoes who is purely altruistic and cares about starving black babies?

It would be great of black babies weren't starving, there just isn't a point caring because the only way to put an end to this permanently is to advance science so humanity and all it's poverty and mortality can be surpassed as quickly as possible.
