>Beware of Fake Libertarians

Attention all posters of this board, this is a warning about one of the single greatest threats to freedom and liberty of modern times, that threat being: fake libertarians. You may have, or have not, encountered fake libertarians before as they are, along with legitimate libertarians, common on the internet, 4chan especially. And you may or may not have had to argue against or put up with the ignorance of the fakers that often preside whenever political discussion, regardless if it’s related to libertarianism or not, that pop up on a(n almost) frequent basis.

The following characteristics that are usually exhibited by fake libertarians: constant threats about the oppression of socialism, sloppy arguments in favor of capitalism that are nothing but drenched in ignorance, racism, elitism, misogyny, constant Ron Paul or Ayn Rand references, contrarianism and/or counter-culturism, evidence that they are not older than age 18, discrediting anything non-American as either “socialism,” “fascism,” and/or general oppression totalitarianism, belittlement of the poor and/or those who have lower quality jobs like food server (regardless if the worker chose it or not), preferences towards UNIX or Linux products, arguments that unions are a threat to freedom, claiming that liberals are out to get libertarians because of our capitalism, and claiming that conservatives are out to get them because of our atheism.

What we REAL libertarians actually are: we do not make ourselves or the entire ideology look bad, we do not support unions because we’re above-average workers that can fend for themselves without needing hand outs, we do not support socialism because we prefer economic freedom, we are admirers of Ayn Rand but not necessarily followers, we believe a worker is a worker regardless of his or her job, we are intelligent individuals unlike fake libertarians (if you’re not intelligent then you are not a real libertarian), we prefer freedom over equality, we never provide arguments for capitalism that are ignorant in any way, and we’re the only true free individuals that can lead a better world.

If you ever encounter a fake libertarian, expunge and/or execute them for their idiocy and neo-conservativism, they do not deserve to live, they will not be missed, and they will stop making everyone associated to them looking bad.

Yeah, I can't tell the real 'libertarians' from the fake ones because your ideology sounds retarded even when it's being proposed in good faith.

I consider real libertarians more dangerous. The former are just edgy teenagers with no real coherent worldview. The latter is a very serious threat to our current forms of liberal democracy with their extreme fetishization of individual liberty to the detriment of all else.

So there are stupid people who have political views similar to yours and it's hurting your credibility? That's true for any political stance. There are selfish spoiled liberal kids too. Just like there are gun-toting, racist, bible-thumping conservatives.

You're just being a whiny faggot.

I used to be just like these 2, but everyone comes around in the end.
Being a Libertarian is a selfless and noble act, you have to defend the rights of people that would murder you, those that would steal from you, those that would censor you etc. It's a heavy burden, knowing we give so much but get only scorn in return
I can understand if you're too weak to take on this responsibility.

>implying that anything matters BUT individual liberty

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-15 19:07

Individual liberty is enormously important, but in a capitalist market society it only exists for the wealthiest few.

Right wing libertarians generally have their heart in the right places, they just need a better grounding in political theory.

Certain individual liberties lead to less liberty for that same individual

liberties are not liberties
Don't you mean "some things you think are individual liberties are not really liberties"?

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-16 6:08

Libertarians are the new liberals, its cool and hip to be one now.

its edgy too.

Even most libertarians accept this. For example, you are not at liberty to impede another person's liberty.

examples, please?

>make all drugs legal

>people are at liberty and thus exercise their rights to be drug addicts all day everyday (if you don't exercise your rights you will lose them)

>now these drug addicts are no longer at liberty to be functional members of society, and will soon lose their liberty and freedom of being alive due to not being able to afford food and water

>make cannabis (pseudo-) legal
>people are at liberty to exercise their right to try out and experiment with cannabis
>at least once in a lifetime use percentage under 25%, about average in the western world
>addiction rate notably lower than in most western world countries, both for cannabis and other drugs
>everythingwentbetterthanexpected.jpg

Welcome to Holland

>keep all drugs illegal

>people buy them anyway

>people go to jail and get raped and beaten daily

>drug prices are kept artificially high

>addicts rob and murder to get money

>they die because they snorted dish washing powder instead

Good. Maybe we will move back to pure capitalism.

>make all drugs legal
>people exercise their own free choice, people own themselves and their own bodies, people are not state property
>some people choose to become drug addicts, which happens anyway right now
>they get to be bad examples, pour encourager les autres, which happens anyway right now
>people with more functioning synapses point at them and laugh and go on about their lives, which happens anyway right now

I remember when crack hit the streets in my neighborhood. We had niggers and Mexicans killing each other in the streets. Now we have pot smoking drunk illegal aliens running over thing on 2 and 4 legs with stolen cars. Then Meth showed up.

Yeah, legalize drugs. Or legalize killing druggies.....
