It never ever starts on time. In any other courtroom, if your ass is not seated by 8:00 AM you're locked out then fined for contempt of court. But this judge just doesn't give a shit and has a "my niggas we'll get going when everyone feels like it so let's chill" attitude. Plus all the numerous breaks. Today they took two breaks one hour apart, then called lunch just 15 minutes after the second break. Then there's the hour-and-a-half to two-hour lunches. That's ridiculous and too long for a lunch break. Plus without reason the judge just suddenly decided to end the hearings for the day just 20 minutes after coming back from lunch. That's on top of them ending hearings an hour earlier than any other courtroom would every day.
Are all California courtrooms this unprofessional and lazy?

Around my way, courts list cases, with a time estimate and an approximate start time, but they'll get through them as and when they do. I was once up in the County Court, and saw the list for my courtroom had like twenty claims all listed for 10am before mine at 1pm. I arrived at 12 to settle in and do some last-minute prep and they were still calling them, in random order, every few minutes - nobody went in for most of them, so presumably they were a routine procedure handled on paper, and even when someone did go in they were only there for ten minutes. My hearing rolled around at 2pm - presumably the judge had taken lunch after the marathon.
