Political clout is a necessary externality to control in any market economy. Look at, for example, the industrial relations system which is entirely contrived by the state's intervention. Medium business is not efficient as it is not controlling the state apparatus. Furthermore, you need to read more about "the firm" in economics: "actually existing" capitalism is a planned economy.
