Unemployment at two year low

Good news today, seems like job creation is finally picking up at a steady pace.  Dropping a full percentage point over the past four months.  I imagine it will rise back up to +9% as more people return to the job market and begin looking for work again.

Unfortunately for me as a public worker, I probably won't be seeing a rise in hours despite this fact as the government continues to shed jobs at the state level. :(

I'm curious how it would be to live in the U.S., not working for one year. In my country, a script writer actually, literally starved to death some months ago, even though my country has a safety net. At that time she was sick so she was not able to go out and seek help.
Have you heard about any who starved to death in your country? except for Africa and some Asian countries...

As for me, I don't think any country could be said to have a safety net if there were any person who starved or were frozen to death. What would you think?
