Misourri Republicun: Repeal Child Labor Laws

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-16 18:37

The St. Louis Beacon ran an interesting piece Feb. 15 regarding State Sen. Jane Cunningham of St. Louis County. She sponsors a bill in the current session of the General Assembly which revokes any oversight of child labor laws in the state.

Senate Bill 222 eliminates the prohibition of employing children under the age of fourteen. It also removes restrictions on the number of hours worked during the week and when those hours happen. Even worse, the bill also removes Missouri's Division of Labor Standards from inspecting workplaces to make sure they are safe for children.

As a parent of two teenagers, I am left scratching my head at this proposal. Cunningham, a Republican, gives more insight to her motive with the interview she gave to the Beacon.

"My aim is to put back some common sense. We're not doing students any favor by telling them, 'You cannot work,'" Cunningham said.

Cunningham claims many parents and their children are already violating the current labor laws but she offered no statistics to back up her claim. She uses her own parenting example as to what should happen with everyone else's children in Missouri. Cunningham feels current laws are "over the top" and prevent parents from teaching children to work hard.

Kids are going to end up working for the rest of their lives. Why not give them an opportunity to start this early? And if kids are able to find a job, well shit, why can't I?

If there were more restrictions on child labor there would be more jobs for you, delivering papers, flipping burgers and so forth.

I agree. If we wanna get ahead of China, we have to make sure our 10 year olds are getting great factory jobs too.

Ahem. SO, bitches....

I'm not crazy, I'm not a troll. But, I love the Matrix, Stephen King's Dreamcatcher and Food Incorporated.

If any of you hate the corporations like Cargill, Perdue (if you speak french, this name is ironic) and the destruction that others like them are wreaking upon the earth and humanity in the name of profit, then I invite 4chan to expose them. Take the red pill, and the most rocking trip since time began.

If I have inadvertantly posted in the wrong board, please forgive me and direct me to another. This same message will appear again and again until Anonymous finds it and chooses to act. or not. I mean, it's up to them. But, if they've successfully targeted Scientology then American corporations and special interests ought to be a piece of cake.

Ready for the revolution?

Getting ahead of China isn't important. That means jackshit. Cause if we don't have a world to live in, then we don't have anything. So we need to get ahead of ourselves and our self-centredness. Dance to a different drum, break away from the politicians and save the world. Fuck governments, empower yourself and start living like a real person.

And Shiichan? If you're reading this, then you and your buddies know where to find me. Just don't do any direct contact, or I'll disappear. Red pill or blue pill, bitches.
