Like anything, it's a mixed bag. It was mostly a desperation move by the Germans. Read up on the Weimar economy -- It was Zimbabwe with Germans instead of Africans. You'd want to spend your cash by noon because it would be worthless by dinnertime. Wheelbarrows full of Deutche Marks would buy groceries. The Germans wanted two things: someone to blame (AKA Jewish bankers) and someone who would fix it (AKA the nazis). I'll give them credit for fixing the economy -- going from a worthless DM to being fairly well off isn't a bad thing. I'll give Hitler credit for the invention of the Interstate Highway system, which is a useful invention.
I don't like what they did to the Jews, but I think that was sort of a dangerous mix of dispair and political scapegoating. By the time they had real power, they'd so poisoned the well that they HAD to Final Solution. You can't preach that something is the devil and not destroy it.
