Is it safe to register to vote anymore?

Name: Robert J Harsh 2010-08-24 8:48

For the past few weeks, I have been wondering if it is even "safe" to register to vote anymore.

Looking at history, one of the last acts of a failing Empire (such as the USA) is the harassment, jailing, and murdering of the opposition, even among the main political parties.

So if one votes Democrat and the Republicans take over again, should we expect secret jails to be filled with "commie" democrats or vice versa with "fascist" republicans.  And it is not like any of these people will ever get out either.

Watch the movie Children of Men and you'll get an idea of what I am talking about.  Soylent Green and the Running Man are others.

I have decided to stop registering and never voting again.  I just can no longer justify doing it and it likely will shorten my lifespan at some point if I do decide to vote.

Thoughts?

No, I'm serious, get out.  If you won't even contribute to the system any attempt at accomplishing what you think will be beneficial - either just to you or to people in general - then you're not worth the effort.  Crawl up into your paranoid shell and let the tide take you to some other country where personal opinion and vote matters even less than what it does in this country.

Admitting you have this concern is fine and taking steps to mitigate the concern in ways that are at least substitutiary to voting can be therapeutic; I would have greater respect if you said you have this concern but that wouldn't stop you (from voting).  I'm not a psychiatrist by trade so I'm not going to help dig you out of your hole.
