Anarchy

Got something that works better?

Anarchy is fascinating. I put it to you that it will never exist in a true form. The Hobbesian "War of all against all" is a fallacy, as men will do what they've always done and contract with one another to provide mutual protection, make fair trades etc.

The attraction of anarchy as an idea is that it imagines you can destroy the current political system and reset all the presumptions about rights, property and status to 0.

I don't like the idea of living without the rule of law. Not one bit! But the law will always be there: in the mind of man. We know instinctively what the law is...

Superior type - GODS LAW. We are all created equal. No one has the right to tell me what to do.

Inferior type - MANS LAW, A.K.A. CONTRACT LAW. You scratch my back.

I think to become free it'd be easier to get there from a state of anarchy. Once you've subjugated yourself to the mighty it's very difficult to assert your rights again.

Am I right?

GODS LAW. We are all created equal. No one has the right to tell me what to do.

"Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ" - Ephesians 6:5

"Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's." - Matthew 22:21

Excellent point, sir. But I close my Bible right after it says God created the earth and then gave man dominion over it. I'm not taking my picture of God from the Bible - that's a matter for our own private beliefs I guess - but from natural law and a belief in a prime mover of some sort.

I'm guessing you're not religious, let me know if I'm right.

But natural law also has hierarchies. In packs and in herds, there is always an alpha leader and beta followers. In human society there are leaders, too. From chieftains of tribes to presidents of nations. It all corresponds to the natural emergence of ruling hierarchies.

Yes but you can't deny that if God created man he made him unique among the animals because he mad him a rational being. What your saying is that some people by virtue of their emergence as leaders, bullies or "alphas", whatever, have the POWER to tell others to do, not the right, to quote Dr Zhivago. I'm talking about a moral equality and a spiritual one, not a physical or political one. People who choose to follow leaders contract to do so and give up some of their rights for whatever benefits following that leader provides. That's contract law.

I don't believe you're one of these people, 44, but if you want to live in a world where you can do what you please because you're bigger and stronger and cleverer than everyone else you're living in a fantasy world.

There is always someone stronger than you.

Yes, God made us unique in that we are able to dream, think, imagine, and so on, but he did not make us equal in wit, ability and performance. As the clever beings that we are, we capitalized on this by owning slaves, creating state governments, asserting our rule over others and so on. It has always been this way and will continue, regardless of how free we think we are or how many egalitarian policies we can enforce.

I don't believe you're one of these people, 44
Did I say I am? No, I did not.
There is always someone stronger than you.
And as such, he is above me. No disagreements there.

Most zombie Americans think that Anarchy is a bad word, yet very few of them actually know what Anarchy means.

I'm a proud, absolutely life long Anarchist -- and the thing is, my approach to government is much more sensible than anything else you're going to hear when watching a debate or turning on the news.
