Why is voting so broken

Why do we still use electoral votes?  It made sense 100 years ago, but now a days EVERYONE has a TV, radio, internet, etc.  I think everyone can make a vote for themselves.  It seems the bigger the country the candidate comes from the more in their favor the vote will be.

Because most Americans are retarded, and need someone else to vote for them.
