I feel that dedicating our limited resources in an attempt to visit planets that we know are not possible of supporting any aspect of human life is an economical and social waste of time and resources.

Mars might have some scarce resources, it really depends on the expense of extracting them and bringing them back. Most likely we will send robots capable of surface mining and servicing a prefabricated rocket transport system.
