Obama Wants Your Pocket Knife

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-08 13:49

Beware! That folding knife in your pocket may turn you into a criminal if the Obama administration gets its way. Although there has been a lot of fear and speculation that the new administration wants to take your guns, the most pressing threat now is actually to your pocket knives. With the changing of the guard at U.S. Customs, that agency has now embarked on redefining "switchblades" under federal law to include a wide variety of one hand opening knives that never were intended to be prohibited. In fact, many of the knives U.S. Customs now seek to prohibit under the Federal Switchblade Law had not even been invented at the time of its enactment! Furthermore, four previous U.S. Customs ruling letters (prior administrations) specifically determined "assisted opening" knives not to be defined as switchblades.

This new proposed U.S. Customs regulation is so broad that thousands of pocket knives will fall under its sweep and millions of knife owners will be affected. The problem is not simply that imports will be banned (which is bad enough), but that the "agency determination" will be used by domestic courts and law enforcement to determine what a "switchblade" is under both federal and state laws. Many states, including New Hampshire, fail to define switchblades and simply rely on the federal definition.

Will you allow them to take your knives? What happens when you can't be trusted with a two inch long piece of metal?

Don't wait for the redefinitions to sink in if you want to change them, act now, act quickly. What's quicker than a Stiletto-brand switchblade?

Are you sure this isn't just for airports and shit? I hardly think I am going to have my house raided by an elite SWAT team just because I'm cutting up my sunday steak.

Unless you live in fucking Belgrade, what do you need a knife for?

pocket knives to cut up steak?

same deal goes for guns. Unless you are a farmer or in the Military, why do you need them? How many shootings will it take for your country to realize the average man does not require guns?

List of Reasons you would need guns
- Keep Serbs out of your face
- Farmer who needs to protect livestock
- Law enforcer or  military
- Criminal activities

Don't give me that "i need to protect myself" shit either.

A large part of what we are is technology.  Technologies and tools are developed by people, for people, and the knife is one of our most fundamental tools.  The idea that a society should be so totalitarian in nature that it can restrict the rights of individuals to use these tools is a bad one, and ultimately harms individuals in a way much more profound than the few idiots who run around stabbing and shooting each other.
You turn to society for your survival and protection.  As an American, I reserve that right for myself, and know that a man dependent on his society for his survival and protection is something less; a worthless creature in the natural world, weak, detached, and spoiled.

if you don't have a gun, and don't think you need one, just wait till someone breaks into your house, kills your wife and kids, and steals all your shit, then cripples you and paralyzes you for the rest of your life.

after they leave with all of you manhood, humanity, possessions, and life, you can file a police report.

Britfag here. I thought America was supposed to be about freedom, to be able to buy a fuck ton of guns and hamburgers and not have to give a fuck what anyone else or the government thinks. If you don't want they why not just move to Canada?

I'll admit that the contemporary American press and the mass media has nothing to do with freedom, but the right and the value is real.  Short of slander, I could print up and distribute anything I want.

No way! Tell me you're trolling!  I'm gonna check that out.  I've spent about six months in Australia and found them to be more like Americans than any other people.  They even listen to the same kind of sorry ass country music.

but don't kid yourself. America is no more free than any other nation. your government just dress things up better than some

Don't worry.  In addition to having spent time in your country(?) I have spent years in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.  There is no true freedom anymore because we have been deprived of the only true freedom; the ability to walk away.  There are no more places in the world where a person can go and start living however they want.  Nationalism has imprisoned the land, and us along with it.  Now, under the yoke of the law, all of our freedoms are measured in degrees.  From sexual freedom to how we must educate our children, everything is subject.  Then there's the ultimate feudal insult, property tax.  The existence of this land rent forces subjugation.  We remain slaves, albeit in gilded chains.  Unfortunately these chains were forged by, and continue to be reinforced by ourselves.  Specifically by our appetites.  When enough of us rely on reason instead of superstition, when enough of us resist fear, gluttony, and stop rutting like pigs, we will find freedom again.

America has survivalists, they don't pay property tax and all their sales and purchases are under the radar so effectively they only pay sales tax. No other nation on earth would allow this.

What is it with liberals and begging to give up rights?  Each generation of liberals gives up more so that by the time we would have needed the right to bear arms and protect ourselves, they have long ago given up that right.

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-29 2:19

Apparently there are enough people in the electorate to drive progress towards a safer, more centrally controlled, cohesive society.  What is it with "conservatives" who talk a lot of shit about freedom, and traditional values and culture, but don't have the stones or the ability to find a new way.  Who bitch, but take advantage of every new government program, and acquiesce to every new infringement of our "rights".  Whose Iconic CEO's cry for bailouts.  Stand up, or shut up.  You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Law abiding citizens would be safer if you didn't remove their ability to defend themselves. You want women, the elderly and disabled to be defenceless.

Name: Anonymous 2009-06-30 0:59

Better read that again Bubba. After I got tired of standing up, and getting beat over the head for my trouble I left this goat fucked political prison of a country and have been trying to find real freedom, preparing for the time we can take it back, and trying to avoid contributing to this ethically bankrupt and soon to be totalitarian mess.  And Every time I come back it's grown worse.  From your fucking bush and the "patriot" act to Obama the socialist, we're getting tag teamed and the only people who seem to see it are the idiotic loathsome right wing cranks, racists, and apocalyptic zionists.
And for the record, the likelihood that "women, the elderly and disabled" would be safer with knives, particularly without extensive training, is ludicrous.  They should have guns.

You said "You want women, the elderly and disabled to be defenceless"  Not me.  I'll admit that combining the liberals' positive spin on their encroachments of our freedoms with an attack on "conservatives" was intended to be...tricky.  Where did I move to?  The world.  Real freedom is dead everywhere, but it manifests in varying degrees in different ways in different places.  I've spent about two years in the middle east, two in China, one in SEA, 6 mos in Australia, all over except South America, observing.  I've said it here before, but it bears repeating.  The west may proudly proclaim a high degree of political freedom, but when it comes to personal freedom, it fails hard.  In many of the Asian(including west Asian)places I've been, political freedom is regulated, but people know how to mind their own fucking business, so there's more personal freedom.  See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.  Here in the US, it's What's he doing there? call the cops, sue the bastards.

So what should conservatives be doing then. Leaving the country?

Name: Anonymous 2009-07-01 3:07

>>39
Living by the values they proclaim, as should the "liberals", because at the most fundamental level they're the same. And yes, leaving the country would help.  It provides perspective, and we are a very provincial people.  I'm not saying it's because of any inherent flaw.  Like so many countries, what we are has been determined in large part by our geography.  Most countries in Europe can be driven across in less than a day, and they're not separated by oceans.
We are an amazing people.  Our history, both American and Western has made us the most innovative, independent, and capable people in the world, but it's come at a cost that may break us.  We have no shared culture except for politics and the law.  The problem with this is that a culture of laws is incompatible with a people who are bred to be independent. Furthermore, the law is inconsistent with our values.  What is an American's primary value?  Freedom.  Law restricts freedom, but the people don't see it this way.  They are distracted by the idea that if they can control the political progress of legislation then things will change for the better.  So they get wrapped up in trying to codify the more mundane aspects of their beliefs, and it just feeds the monster.  If I'm left alone, then I don't care who's fucking who, or what, and I don't give a shit what color people are, or what they believe, or worship, or, aside from compassion and sympathy, even that they are killing each other.  As long as I am free.  I am willing to sacrifice very little in return for security because I know, like every good conservative should, that it's risk and adversity that builds character.
Now this wasn't an argument.  It's just a sample of my own bullshit, and it's short, full of holes, and was only intended to convey some of my major points without reaching the dreaded tl;dr status, but I assure you that I have thought through all of this, and much more.  The biggest hole is a plan to deal with these problems, a new social/governmental paradigm, but I've got a few ideas there too.
