Any reason not to run my credit up?

Name: Anonymous 2009-03-01 18:51

I mean, if all the banks collapse, and the economy goes into another great depression, who is going to come and collect my debt?

Is there any advantage to paying my debts off during this crisis?  I mean, interest rates are so low right now, there's really no reason to pay them off now even if we do pull out of it.

I'm going to go out tomorrow and put a MacBook Pro and a bunch of computer equipment on my card tomorrow unless somebody here can give me a compelling reason not to right now.

I mean, the entire fucking government has done shit like this, putting us all into a tight spot. What's the harm in adding my tiny $10,000 burden to the pile?

Besides, the interest rate is probably going to be FAR outstripped by inflation, so in the future I should be able to pay it down if necessary with about a week's wages.

You are not some kind of economic genius, if you are certain the banks are going to collapse then so is everyone else, especially the banks who are not going to be issuing more loans.

So at this point it's looking more like a gamble?

Not really, even if your bank goes under your debt will just be passed onto someone else and you will still get a cop banging on your door if you try to bail.

Not if your employer goes out of business and you're stuck without work. You could argue that you'd be fucked either way if this happens. Then again, you might be out of work for only a short period of time and that $10,000 in credit card debt might be enough to put you over the edge.

I love how the best time to buy computer accessories is when I'm broke.  Those terabyte drives are so tempting.

The bank fails and gets bailed out by the gov't (thus, the gov't buys all its liabilities and assets.)  Congrats, now you owe Uncle Sam a shittload of dough!

Don't waste that money on something that loses value as quickly as computer equipment.

And Barack Obama, in line with his socialist policies, will simply forgive the debt, because I'm just a naive minority, a victim of the corrupt banking system, who should have never gotten a loan in the first place!

And it won't ruin my credit, because he'll simply enact fair lending legislation so they can't discriminate against me!

I've seen worse schemes work.

This is really great.  The best excuse to be an asshole I've heard yet.   OBAMA WILL SAVE ME!

Have fun in debtor's prison, fucktard.
