The First Presidential Debate

Name: Casas ONLINE! 2008-10-07 2:06

I believe John McCain won that debate. Give me a plausible reason why I am wrong and that Obama won.

- I will not be racist.
- I will not poke fun at any candidate.

Respond truthfully.

I watched it and read subsequent reviews and commentaries from both sides.  I have to say that Obama could have done better (he was too kiss ass for my tastes), but I feel he performed better at answering questions directly and not concentrating on his opponent too much.  It did bother me that McCain refused to look at him or say his name... the "sneer campaign" is actually worse than the smear campaign any day.  McCain also has shown a habit of making snap decisions and in a matter of days changing his mind.  Also, I'm sorry she seems like a really good person and a good fit for more localized government positions, but Palin is simply not fit for vice presidency yet. Making it sound like he is giving a $5,000 to each family for medical bills is an absolute lie, he is actually going to succeed at making America's already failing health care system worse.  Why do you feel McCain won?

Palin thinks that a girl that gets pregnant through being raped by her father should be forced to have the child.  You can't have that opinion and still be a 'really good person.'

I hate the cunt, but even I can see that there's a difference between personal opinion and public policy.

McCain was more objective and logical, he spoke clearly illustrating a well refined mind, I'm not an ageist, I don't consider someone incompetent and senile just because of their age. Obama on the other hand was just the better populist, he was subjective and emotional, his promises were all ambiguous so that later on he can say he achieved them in one definition of the term, if not all the others, his policies all look good on paper regardless of foresight, this is almost a trademark of his, politicians usually attempt to pretend they have thought things through, Obama on the other hand revels in the belief he hasn't because this makes him look new and exciting rather than just another boring qualified professional.

People tend to ignore criticism of something that looks good on paper, if you give a long drawn out argument about why lowering tax for the poor only leads to inflation and giving breaks to small businesses prevents creative destruction which is an essential part of economic efficiency, they ignore everything you've said because you are criticising the almighty progressive tax and helping the little guy. This is a democracy and frankly McCain failed to develop a tangible campaign platform. Obama is spending 3 times as much on TV as McCain and has rounded up a whole network of campaign members, supporters, celebrities and various fanatical groups to advertise the "cause" for free.
