Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once. These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city. As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today’s surplus, borrow for needs.

More like Mrs.Inmate #920859324 after she's convicted of her crimes in Alaska.

Amusingly enough, the council isn't obeying the republicans who're saying "fire the prosecutor and investigator".

That won't last.

LOGICAL FALLACY

Increased spending is not the same as proportionally increased spending or a policy of high spending.

As is typical for any rapidly growing town or business it is perfectly normal to take out a reasonable sizes loan so you can grow quicker, pay back the loan quicker and be better off at the end of it.

Everyone with a brain realised this as soon as they read what op posted.

I guess she's got an 82% approval rating in Alaska because she's such a shitty govenor, huh?

She has such a high approval rating because she paid for it. Alaska citizens each get cut a check for $2,000 by the oil companies each year. Palin got that amount increased last year by $1,200. So now they all get $3,200 each year. Of course they're happy with her, they're getting paid.

Of course what they're not taking into account is that Alaska has the highest taxes in the nation AND the highest spending per capita under Palin. Under Palin, Alaska's spending has increased to 10.5 times the nation average per capita. And it's the #1 state for all those earmarks and pork barrels projects that McCain claimed he was so against.

THE GOVERNOR OF A STATE HAS NO CONTROL OVER CONGRESSIONAL EAR MARKS.

What are you, a moron?

Except for lobbying in favour for it right?

What, to a congressman who dislikes her?

No.  Alaska politics have been fairly corrupt for a long time, and speaking as a resident, I am actually a little disappointed we may lose her, because she has been getting rid of people who are corrupt.

The Republican Party in Alaska was an old fashioned political Machine, just like Chicago's Democratic Machine, and Sara was popular here not only because she got them to increase the oil checks to correspond in an increase in oil value, but because she stood up to the machine, going as far as to defeat our incumbent Governor, a very entrenched and well connected politician.

Until the National Republican Party told them to sit down and shut up, the Alaskan Republican Party didn't like her, because she wasn't one of the good old boys, and didn't play the same bullshit games.

Not to say that she is pure as the driven snow, no politician is, but she is pretty good anyways.

As a mayor, Palin hired Ted Stevens's lobbyist to get more earmarks and pork for Wasilla. Running for governor she continued to vocally support pork and earmarks.

Alaska under Palin takes more pork per capita than any state in the union. She took $750,000,000 in earmarks last year alone for Alaska.

Shes not a senator, not sure what earmarks have to do with her

Again, let's read the important part of that post:

>>As a mayor, Palin hired Ted Stevens's lobbyist to get more earmarks and pork for Wasilla

Do you get it now?

You fuckers act as if Obama is running against Palin.  I can see the streaming of Democrat women over to the McCain ticket, now.  Once pinched, the Democrats PROVED they are at least as strongly misogynist as the Republicans were reputed to be.

"Vice President Palin."  Get fucking used to hearing that, JewLibs.

Never mind that Palin supports the exact opposite ideals that Clinton did. Good one there, buddy.

What was your point?  Women vote emotionally.  Women are emotional creatures with about the same intellectual capacity of the average chimp.  Voting for a woman has been a lifelong dream for the American woman voter.  Hence, support for Palin ... regardless of her politics.

People in the USA have been known to vote for stupid things like having "good hair", being "handsome", and other things like gender and now the latest idiocy of "hope and change".  If you had any education at all instead of only having a mouth that expelled gases like an anus, you'd know that.

Well it's obvious the illuminati wanted the Republicans to win, that's why they chose Obama to run going against your prediction that hillary would be the democratic candidate.
