Short sell stocks if you think stocks are going down.
Buy a diversified portfolio of currencies that'll stay strong. Then when your target currency gets to rock bottom (when it can only go up), convert your portfolio all to that currency.

Gold is already too expensive to make a profit on. If you had bought it several years back you'd be sitting on some fat cash right now. But with it sitting near 1000 an ounce there's not a ton of profitability left.
