India’s supply of arable land is second only to that of the U.S., but it must buy some foods on international markets, exacerbating a global food crisis.

This is a serious issue.

Is India self-sufficient in food production or must they import food to feed their population?

What foods must they import that cannot be produced locally?

Ethiopia's population has more than doubled since 1985, if they are too stupid to castrate themselves after their second kid maybe they deserve to starve. I say we don't give 1% of our hard earned GDP to these countries and let them have a taste of reality.

These stuff aren't news. Many developing nations who used to be self-sufficient in food, like India and Turkey are now importers - not only due to increasing population, but also due to people running away from the still feudal agriculture in these nations.

As nice as it would be to continue supporting the bloating populations of the 3rd world it can't go on forever and frankly I'd rather they implement family planning now rather than 20 years along the line when their populations are 4 times as large as they are now and peak oil is setting in.
