Mahatma Gandhi

Spoiler: Gandhi hated social liberals and would have simply been killed if Britain was really a despotism. If anything British imperialism and colonialism has been a beneficial force in Indian by introducing technology, offerring protection from malicious colonial powers like Belgium and unifying most of the country. As much as Indians whine about Kashmir and Pakistan the British actually usherred in an era of peace and unity even the Mughals failed to achieve. After colonialism India enterred 25 years of economic stagnation cause by socialist economic policies in which the wage of the average worker only rose by an average of 1%. Gandhi's fanaticism had no supernatural or enlightened properties, it in fact contributed to the country's poverty.

Sorry but that is a strawman fallacy. I said they had some socialist economic policies, not that they socialist as say the national socialists of Germany 1933-1945.

Not many, most of them view India as the centre of asia and an entity that attracts the most powerful groups of the era, the Mughals were descended from the Mongols and Ghengis Khan, the British became powerful from their industrial revolution. To them it's just history. In the west however Mahatma Ghandi is idolised by demagogues because they believe he has the following qualities...
1: Foreign
2: Underdog
3: Had hidden mystical knowledge us narrow minded westerners just don't understand
4: Pacifist
5: His movement was sort of like a revolution.
6: Never contributed to the economy.
7: Encouraged others not to contribute to the economy.
8: Never declared himself to be part of any ideal and thus sufficiently distant from their ideology not to arouse suspicion about their obsession with him.
They almost jerk off over this and I find that behaviour absolutely bizarre. That is not to say that Ghandi was not an interesting character, just that these myths created about him do not prove a thing.
