Defiant states threaten RealID

WASHINGTON (AP) - An air travel showdown is looming over a federal law on driver's license security standards that some states have yet to adopt.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff is pushing states to seek an extension to comply with the post-9-11 security law by the end of the month.

Some states have resisted implementing the Real ID law, calling it costly, impractical and an invasion of privacy. Four states have yet to seek an extension to implement the regulations. Chertoff says if no extension is sought by the end of the month, drivers in Maine, Montana, New Hampshire and South Carolina won't be able to use their driver's licenses to board domestic flights starting in May.

Maine and Montana say they won't be seeking an extension from the federal government.

WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON?
