Hierarchy.

Is society a hierarchy? You can categorise people by their accomodation or legal power, but I believe the real judge is income which is usually reflected by their profession and thus their level of education and skills.

Fail: People who have obtained a negative reputation in society. Criminals, homeless, drug addicts etc..
Lower class: Failed, never went or did badly in high school. Unskilled labourers.
Lower-middle class: Got through high school, maybe some community college. Skilled/educated workers.
Middle class: Some college or a highly skilled lower-middle class worker. Skilled/educated workers in high demand.
Upper-middle class: Success in college and/or higher education. Professionals.

The next rung of the ladder cannot be defined through quality of education since upper-middle classes are as educated as they get. It can only be defined through power and money.

Insignificant upper class: Someone who has managed to obtain much wealth but has little interest in anything else.
Professional upper class: Someone who obtains wealth and maintains their role in their source of wealth, when they retire they will become insignificant. Professional does not exclude porn stars and such like.
Machiavellian upper class: Someone who can interfere with the law, for whatever reason, using corruption and/or muscle.

I also believe there is a need for an elite class since some people do not need to use corruption and/or muscle to interfere with the law.

Elite: Similiar to the machiavellian upper class in that they obtain unnatural amounts of wealth through unjust means, except they do it legally. Could be due to a loophole in the law or maybe the public has been convinced it is a good idea, whether they are extremely succesful professional upper class or part of the elite depends on your definition of just.
