Why do they call themselves Celtic when the huge majority of their population speaks English, a Germanic language with a large Latin/French vocabulary?

The English speaking Scotsmen, Welshmen, and Irishmen are Germanic. The ones who speak Scottish Gaelic, Welsh, and Irish are Celtic.
